Baby Dies, Parents Have Regrets

WINDSOR—The baby who in March was hours from being pulled off life support at a Canadian hospital but was rescued by a pro-life group that brought the boy to the U.S. for treatment, died Tuesday night in the comfort of his own home in Windsor, Ontario.

“It’s a shame, really,” a self-proclaimed “Pro-Lifinista” croaked out between sobs. “We only had a few days together in Windsor and that sick baby was my rabbit’s foot at the blackjack tables.”

The droning of organ music filled the parlor. The sandwich tray was nearly empty except for the pile of discarded tomato slices. An unsupervised adolescent jammed his index finger into his nose and wiped it casually under the lip of the card-table.

Outside the weather was changing rapidly for the worse. A couple walked by, the man pushing a double-wide stroller containing only one child.

“It’s too bad about that kid,” he told his wife, flicking his chin at the dead-baby house.
